How Social Media is Changing Our World

Nowadays checking your Facebook notifications or Twitter is almost as common a daily occurrence as brushing your teeth, maybe even more so.

Over the last 5 years there has been a dramatic change in how we are going about are day to day activities and procedures.

Can you imagine a time when Myspace was the most popular social media site, YouTube was only just getting started, and Facebook was only populated by a small number of students?

Hard to believe isn’t it!

Nowadays checking your Facebook notifications or Twitter is almost as common a daily occurrence as brushing your teeth, maybe even more so.

How did we get here?

The last few years have seen the introduction of the Iphone, Android, and an array of other ‘Smart phones’ that have been progressively getting better, and launching more features and apps to become a must have item.

Social media is becoming more and more accessible as sites can be regularly checked through your phone.

Data published earlier this year shows that 30% of Smart phone users access social media sites. Also YouTube now serves up over 100 million videos to mobile devices each day.

While this rise of Social networking was happening, around the same time, YouTube was launched in February 2005 and by the end of that year YouTube was the most popular video site on the net.

By July 2006 it was serving 100 million views a day, a figure that has now risen to over 2 Billion views a day! YouTube has now become the platform for anyone with a video camera to share their own content for the rest of the world to see.

Anyone and everyone can be a journalist and have their 15 minutes of fame.

Without a doubt it has been the astounding popularity in social networking that has really changed the face of how we interact with friends, businesses and find out what’s going on around us that has truly taken the world my storm.

Facebook’s introduction of the ‘news feed’ played a key role in boosting the use of Social media. This was the innovation that allows you to review at a glance what your friends are up to on Facebook and around the Web.

This news feed is still an ever growing concept that Twitter and MySpace quickly caught on to, and remains a hot topic that has gained its infamy with Facebook’s recent privacy issues.

Social media is here and it’s definitely not going anywhere – its popularity is sure to keep growing and everyone is excited to see what will come next.

One thing is for sure, without accessing some form of social media in your day to day life, you simply aren’t going to be up to date with everything that’s happening around you.

With more and more social media tools and sites arriving every day who knows what direction it will take.Read more at www.ziirii.com
