5 Marketing Tips for Small Businesses

Running a small business is already a not-so-easy thing to do, especially if the whole business is around you. You feel the weight of your responsibilities on your shoulders morning and afternoon and have to face it all without as much support as larger businesses get. So I thought I’d help you a little by sharing marketing tips especially appropriate for small businesses.

What are you doing?

This might seem overly simple and therefore set but it is not. So many entrepreneurs run their firms blindly, without seeing where they are going because they don’t know where it all comes from. Ask yourself why you set up your firm; for money but what else? Did you want to help a particular group of people or perhaps the environment? Did you want to provide something that had never been proposed in the past? Did you feel the need to be recognized for yourself above all? Knowing what you truly want will greatly help you plan a business strategy and stick to it in its day to day running.

Establish trust

The key to success for small businesses is often that warm relationship you create with clients. You know them, they know you and as long as they feel they are getting a little additional something that other firms are not providing then 3 times out of 4 there is repeated trade and sales. Ask them about their weekend, how work is going, talk about the weather, how they are coping with their children and you will see how they will loosen up. Most people are so caught up in running from activity A to activity B in their daily life that being asked about themselves is like fresh air.

Ever heard of directories’ ads?

This is one of the oldest advertisement methods and yet most businesses don’t use it anymore. And if you a local business you will get to take advantage of free directories where the only thing you have to do is ask to be listed and make sure you share the correct information.

What are you competing against?

By checking who is on the opposite wall, you can identify their weaknesses and strengths and act upon your findings. They have a rotten customer service? Guess what? Yours will be great! Play your cards well. They use costly billboards to advertise? Keep that money for something that is worth it and instead create a FREE Facebook fanpage to share great info about your firm and products/services.

Use videos to make a difference

Uploading videos on a popular site like Youtube is free and so widely used that you can be sure you will have at least a few views. You are a small business-runner I know. You don’t have much content to share that would require a visual tool…Wrong! You might not have content but you have a message. We all do. Just find yours and you will do wonders! What about a funny scene (please don’t ‘borrow’ from others unless you can swerve copyright issues or are given the right to do so) followed by your business’ slogan? Don’t forget to include your shop’s address!

Best of luck!Read more at www.facebook.com
